I will say, as with all my work wear posts, to take all advice with a grain of salt! I was recently reading #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso, where she notes, “In business, a disproportionate amount of importance is placed on the ability to network. If you don’t thrive on going out and meeting a million people, you might end up feeling that you have less of a chance in getting ahead in your career.” She’s making the case that introverts, like herself, can be equally as successful as extroverts despite the fact that school and workplace systems are designed to reward extroverts. I’ll admit that as an extrovert myself, it’s easy for me to write a blog post like this. If you’re an introvert, some of these communication methods may be a bit more difficult.
I won’t say I stand with Amoruso in her statement that a “disproportionate amount of importance” is placed on networking, but I want to assure all personality types out there that being successful is something that comes from inside of you! If you can utilize who you know and be an asset to others yourself, you will be just fine.
I hope you found some of these ideas helpful! While they might not be earth-shattering or completely novel, let them serve as reminders moving forward. As always, you can come to me with any questions regarding your specific career!
P.S. My dress is on major and also comes in blue for petites!
