Can you believe August is almost over?! Where did the summer go?! Now my IG feed is full of transitional sweaters and booties and I’m still over here in Texas trying to soak up the last bit of sun and set my tan.. haha!
Luckily I did get in my last beach trip of the summer this past weekend with my girlfriends! They had first pitched the idea to me in the spring, and I thought that since I had planned such a crazy summer of travel I might not be able to swing it. But after calculating the price of the Homeaway.. I didn’t hesitate haha. You only live once right?!
To be honest, I didn’t even bother to look at pictures of the house before I got there. So when we arrived Thursday, I was pleasantly surprised.. it was SO NICE! It sleeps 10 comfortably and is literally a 5 minute walk to Crystal Sands beach. The water is sooo clear and beautiful, and the sands are white. I had been to Destin once before, but it was for spring break my senior year of college, so suffice it to say I don’t remember much. #justbeinghonest.
After doing some groceries and spending a few hours until sunset at the beach, the girls and I went to McGuire’s Irish Pub for seafood! We basically all came to the agreement that we wanted to eat seafood every day. We didn’t fly all the way to Florida for nothing! Haha!
Friday was pretty much a full beach day and then we went out at night! We had dinner at Harry T’s where there was karaoke, then headed to Tailfins where there was a live band, decided to get adventurous and try Coyote Ugly (don’t judge!!) and then ended the night at the quintessential AJ’s. The entire boardwalk area is fun to go out for drinks in Destin (Baytowne Wharf is cool too!), but beware of cover charges! Us Texas girls were like, “A COVER?! What?!” Haha!
Saturday was another beach day, and we were honestly so exhausted that we decided to stay in, order pizza, and watch the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight. Was anyone really surprised Mayweather won?! Certainly not me.
Sunday was kind of a whirlwind of a day! Unfortunately the owners of the house weren’t as accommodating as we’d hoped about storing our luggage until our evening flights. They wanted us out at right at 10 a.m.! But we still wanted to spend the day at the beach so logistically, you can see how this was an issue. Most beach bars/restaurants in Destin don’t open until 11 a.m. on Sundays so we had an awkward 1 hour period to kill. In the morning we couldn’t find an Uber XL in our area.. so we ended up walking half a mile and across the highway with all our luggage to the nearest Starbucks haha!! I’m sure we were quite the spectacle.. especially since I was carrying an extra large box of Cheez Its as if it was my child. My friends got a good laugh out of that haha. Gotta protect the Cheez Its, ya know?!
After ingesting some caffeine we took an Uber to the Crap Trap, and the staff was SO understanding about our luggage. They let us store it behind the hostess stand and come in and out for whatever we needed. We had a beachside lunch (the Crab Trap Amberjack is AMAZING), drank pina coladas, and enjoyed our last day of sun, salt, and sand.
I also wanted to take some time on the blog to acknowledge those affected by Hurricane Harvey. In fact, my flight was cancelled that Sunday due to some weather concerns on our flight path (luckily they put me on a different flight and it all worked out). Having gone to the University of Texas and having lived in Texas for 21 years, I have A LOT of close friends and loved ones that live in Houston. It’s quite shocking to see photos of the interiors of their homes submerged in water, the car damage, etc. While everyone I know is safe, and these “things” are technically replaceable, it’s still a tragedy to see a home you grew up in or all the things you’ve worked so hard for in life completely ruined. I urge anyone that reads this to donate or help the cause of Harvey relief in any way you can! There are some great articles about ways to do that here and here.
P.S. Please also note that these photos were actually taken at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan (you can read my post about that here). After a quick turn around from Puerto Rico and a particularly stressful GMAT class Wednesday, I was feeling so overwhelmed, stressed and discouraged about various things. I decided that I didn’t want to shoot in Destin because I needed it as a vacation to truly relax and spend quality time with my girlfriends. I just didn’t want anyone to think I was being inauthentic by sharing photos from a different location. However, I still think this look is fun, summery and appropriate for a night out in Florida with girlfriends, which is why I shared it in this post! TIA for understanding. Y’all are the best!
P.P.S. StyleCon Dallas is only 3 weeks away!! Did you get tickets yet?! I heard that Jeanine Amapola, Catherine Lowe from the Bachelor, and Tiffany Hendra from RHOD are hosts and speakers! I’ll be there myself for a day of beauty, fashion presentations, motivational keynotes, blogger panels, Pop Ups, complimentary pamper services, and lots of giveaways. You can buy tickets here and use promo code SOCIAL20 for a ticket discount!!
Thanks for reading! Have a fabulous and safe Labor Day weekend!
